Description
Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet Ultra-Complication Universelle RD#4 represents a high-end timepiece crafted by Audemars Piguet.
This timepiece represents the pinnacle of complexity for the brand, paying tribute to the “L'Universelle” watch that debuted in 1899, recognized as one of the most intricate timekeeping devices globally. Over a century later, the Swiss Haute Horlogerie house Audemars Piguet unveils its inaugural ultra-complicated self-winding wristwatch (RD#4) within the remarkably modern aesthetic of the Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet collection.
The project spanned seven years and was overseen by the renowned technical director Giulio Papi. It debuted in March 2023 and, by November of that same year, received the esteemed Aiguille d'Or at the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève.
In honoring the heritage of the manufacture's intricate timepieces, the Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet Ultra-Complication Universelle RD#4 has been designed with a focus on ergonomics and modern usability, ensuring exceptional comfort and ease of operation. This innovative creation consolidates the Manufacture's horological expertise into a singular movement, the self-winding Calibre 1000, which comprises more than 1,100 elements.
An engineering marvel and a testament to the legacy of fine watchmaking, this groundbreaking mechanism draws upon three generations of research and development innovations, featuring 40 functions, inclusive of 23 complications, such as a Grande Sonnerie Supersonnerie, a minute repeater, a perpetual calendar, a split-seconds flyback chronograph, and a flying tourbillon.
The timepiece features, for the first time, a “hidden” gold caseback that enhances the acoustic performance of the watch when worn, while showcasing the elegance of the mechanism through the innovative Supersonnerie sapphire soundboard upon opening. Engineers, designers, watchmakers, and artisans collaborated for more than seven years to realize this RD#4 timepiece, constantly expanding their expertise to elevate the standards of Haute Horlogerie craftsmanship to unprecedented levels.
